Reddish egrets have a quirky, characteristic way of hunting: they dart back and forth, stabbing at the water. At times, they raise their wings up to cut down the glare on the surface of the water to better see their prey.
This one, in breeding plumage, was running through the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville, FL.
